ANDREW GARBETT DIVERTIMENTO (2008/rev.2010) for Wind Quartet As it’s title suggests this is a light-hearted entertainment piece (in the 18th century sense), neo-classical in style, and around 8 minutes in length. It is in three short movements: fast-slow-fast. The first movement is essentially a waltz (albeit with a few slight rhythmical complications!). The second movement provides a restful interlude to contrast with the faster outer sections, full of grace, poise and refinement. The Final movement is another dance-like piece with changing meters and jazzy syncopations leading to a very upbeat conclusion. -Andrew Garbett |
