ANDREW GARBETT PRAYER (1999) for violin and cello Composed in October 1999, this is an inward-looking, contemplative piece. it is in an ABA form with the first section setting a plainchant-like melody for violin over a continuous drone in the cello part. The middle section explores the sound of individual notes in silence. There is a tremendous sensation of suspended animation. This serene and slightly haunting piece ends with a slowed-down repeat of the opening. -Andrew Garbett |
